The Big Picture

This research project focuses on any issue that negatively affects the lives of young children. You will select an issues, then research it, create a graphic organizer using Inspiration, then report on the issue. For specific details about your assignment, find your teacher's assignment handout in the box below. Use the rest of this guide to help you do your research and complete your assignment.

 

Using "Inspiration"

To do the outline (graphic organizer) for your review of issue paper:

1.      Open Inspiration 9 in your Applications folder

2.      Click on “Templates”

3.      Double-click on “Thinking and Planning”

4.      Open the “Outline” template

5.      Make sure to save the outline to your document folder

 

Steps in the Research Process - AGOPPE

  • Ask Questions: 
    • Identify your research problem or question
    • Read a bit about the topic or issue
    • Analyze the problem and develop or refine questions
  • Gather Information
    • Gather keywords based on questions
    • Choose the best source of information (books, databases, periodicals, WWW, etc.)
    • Search for the information; read it carefully
    • Take notes and bibliographic information - use Noodletools, notecards, or another note-taking process
  • Organize Information
    • Summarize your findings
    • Draw conclusions and inferences
    • Use a graphical organizer to arrange the information (Noodletools will help you creat an outline, as will Inspiration and Word
  • Prepare & Produce Information
    • Decide the best medium(s) to use to communicate the information -this may be part of the assignment
    • Prepare a first draft of a written paper, speech, or PowerPoint, or prepare a script and/or storyboard
    • Prepare a Works Cited page
  • Present Information
    • Revise your first draft (use peer reviewers or a teacher to help you)
    • Revise again if necessary
    • Prepare your final product
    • Present the product to your audience
  • Evaluate Your Work and the Process
    • Evaluate the process and your product
